Alfred Louis Mirakovits, Jr.

Alfred Louis Mirakovits, Junior, of Portage and Grand Blanc, Michigan, and Phoenix, Arizona, passed away in December 2025 at his home. He is survived by his adult children, Aaron Mirakovits (Nathan Robinson) and Lindsay Lefers (Quentin Lefers), grandchildren Charlotte and Edward Lefers, sisters Donna Bruns (Darcy Bruns) and Grace Cunningham (Mike Cunningham), and former spouses Kathy Busch Mirakovits and Cindy Zack.

Born in February 1954 on Camp Lejune Marine Base to Alfred (Sr) and Evelyn Mirakovits, Al moved with his family frequently during Alfred Sr.'s deployments with the United States Marine Corps. The family eventually settled in Barberton, Ohio, where Al attended Barberton High School. He was an active and distinguished member of the wrestling and football teams, graduating in 1972. Al attended Miami University in Oxford, OH, and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Al served 4 years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps as a Tank Officer. He continued as a member of the Marine Corps Reserve, earning a promotion to Lieutenant Colonel in 1994 and retiring from the USMC Reserve shortly thereafter.

While at Miami University, Al met his first wife Kathy Busch. Together they had two children, Aaron and Lindsay. Al met his second wife, Cindy Zack, in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He retired from a career in the industrial paint industry in 2014. Al was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo. He enjoyed cooking, cycling and fitness, woodworking, and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren.

An Open Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, February 1 at the Kalamazoo Nature Center in the Glen Vista Room, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
