Joan A. Wellington

Joan A. Wellington, 92, of Portage, passed away peacefully April 23, 2025 at Bronson Commons in Mattawan. Joan was born December 27, 1932 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Floyd and Flossie (Foster) Davidson. She was united in marriage to Bruce Wellington on September 19, 1950 who preceded her in death May 26, 2009. Joan worked at the original Meijer location on Paterson Avenue in Kalamazoo and then transferred to the Westnedge location once it closed. She retired from Meijer in 1995 after 30 years of service. She was an avid reader, and frequented the Portage District Library. She also enjoyed listening to music and walking at the Celery Flats Trails and walked regularly well into her 80s. Joan was a woman of faith and attended Bethel Reformed Church, as well as other area Reformed Churches. Most of all, Joan loved all of her family, especially interacting with the little ones.

Joan is survived by her four children, Sherri (David) Hunt of Kalamazoo, Sandra (Brad) Armstrong of Allegan, Annette (Bill) Lesman of Portage and Bruce (Shondel) Wellington of Wappingers Falls, NY; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two siblings, Charles Davidson and Patricia Dooley; two lifelong friends, Betty Mitscher and Betty Holdridge; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bruce, and seven of her siblings, Juanita, Ruth, Dale, Art, Pauline, Mildred and Wallace.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025 in the chapel at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, 3941 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49008.
