Marta Reznicek

Marta Reznicek was born into a family of modest means in a small village in South Bohemia, in what is now the Czech Republic. She was one of six children, although only four of them survived into adulthood. As a child, she lived through the hardships of World War II and the occupation of her homeland by Nazi Germany. She later experienced the years of Communist rule in Czechoslovakia.

In 1970, Marta came to the United States to join her husband, Louis. When she arrived, she spoke no English and had to learn the language while building an entirely new life far from home. Through courage, determination, and hard work, she made America her home for the rest of her life.

Marta and her husband shared many happy years together in their home. When he later became seriously ill with Parkinson’s disease, Marta cared for him with great love and devotion. After his passing, and as she grew older, she eventually left the home they had shared and moved to Friendship Village, where she spent the final years of her life.

Although separated from her loved ones by a great distance, Marta never forgot her parents and siblings in the Czech Republic. She remained in close contact with her family until the very end of her life, and they always held a special place in her heart.

Marta was a strong and resilient woman who faced life with wisdom, perspective, and quiet strength. She will be remembered as a kind and compassionate person with a generous heart, always willing to offer a helping hand to others. She was deeply devoted to her faith, which guided her and gave her strength throughout her life.

Marta is fondly remembered by her sister Anna Starikova, her last surviving sibling, and by Anna’s family in the Czech Republic. Together, they hold Marta in their thoughts and prayers.

She will be deeply missed, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all whose lives she touched.

Friends and family are invited to gather from 9 -10 AM at St. Augustine Cathedral, 542 W. Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49007, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Augustine Cathedral, 542 W.
