Nancy Jean Redmond

Nancy Jean Redmond, 87, of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Heritage Community in Kalamazoo.

She was born August 22, 1939, in South Haven, Michigan, the daughter of Dr. Joseph Campbell and Josephine (Foley) Campbell. Growing up in Bangor, she developed a lifelong love of music and was a prolific piano player who also sang in the high school choir. She spent many hours picking blueberries and working the soda counter at the neighborhood drug store, and many summer days at the family cottage on Lake Michigan.

She was united in marriage to John "Jack" Redmond and together they raised six children. Nancy and Jack's love story began one Sunday morning when Nancy arrived late for mass at St. Augustine and caught Jack's attention while he was ushering. After their marriage, her family was the center of her life. They moved to Parchment where she was a loving mother who spent years caring for her children, reading to them, cooking for a big family, shuttling them to various activities, and cheering them on every step of the way. Oh, and the laundry. Who could forget all of the laundry? Life with a family of eight could be chaotic, and Nancy and Jack enjoyed their semi-regular evening trips to McDonald's for coffee to take a quick break from the kids.

As the kids got a little older she finally made time for herself to go back to school and graduate with her associates degree in business, an accomplishment that brought her great satisfaction and pride. When her daughter Karrie was diagnosed with cancer, she was there by her side doing “Mom” things, helping take her to medical appointments and taking care of daily needs as well as being a comforting presence and companion in an unknown situation. Following Karrie's passing, Nancy helped care for her young children and shared a deep bond with them. When Jack became ill, Nancy was his loving, devoted, and tireless caregiver until the end. She then turned her attention to the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store where she volunteered many hours and helped many people.

Nancy is survived by five of her children, Julie (Matt) Waterbury, Molly Redmond, Amy Redmond, Christopher (Alejandra) Redmond, Susie (Todd) Schierbeek; eleven grandchildren, Mike (Jenna) Krueger, Steve (Alekhya) Krueger, Nicholas (Paige) Waterbury, Nathan (Gabrielle) Waterbury, Noah Waterbury, Sage Schierbeek, Anna Schierbeek, Jacob Redmond, Monica Redmond, Rebecca Redmond, Clara Redmond; three great grandchildren, Alex Krueger, Lily Waterbury, Olive Waterbury; son-in-law and wife Dave and Dana Krueger, brother and sister-in-law Robin and Carol Campbell, several, several nieces and nephews, and her special dog Loki.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, daughter Karrie (Dave) Krueger, brother Richard (Judy) Campbell, sister-in-law Mary Catherine (Bob) Johnson, and recently Mary’s husband Bob.

Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, September 18, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Adams Redmond Parchment Funeral Home, 2300 E. G. Ave., Parchment. Rosary will take place at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 939 Charlotte Ave. Burial will be private at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Following mass there will be a luncheon held at the Fr. Bart Hall. For those wishing to make a donation in her memory, the family suggests St. Vincent De Paul Society, Salvation Army, or Catholic Charity Services.
