Paul Earl Macher, 90, of Portage, MI, and Cape Canaveral, FL passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026 in Portage, MI.
He was born June 18, 1936 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Heinrich Frederick Macher and Colette (Massung) Macher.
Paul was a proud and hardworking man whose greatest joy was his family, his lifelong friendships, and the many hobbies that brought people together. A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he never lost his love for his hometown roots, even after making Michigan his home.
Paul proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, earning the Good Conduct Medal during his military service. Much of his military service was spent aboard the USS Hermitage as a Radio Operator with the 2nd Amphibian Tractor Batallion.
After returning home, he met the love of his life, Beverly Joyce Brown. The two were married and built a wonderful life together, raising three sons and one daughter while creating a home filled with love, laughter, and hospitality.
Paul began his career with Nova Corp. in Pittsburgh before a friend encouraged him to pursue an opportunity with General Motors in Kalamazoo. He moved his family to Michigan and went to work for Fisher Body, where his talent for innovation earned him six Joint Patent Awards with General Motors for Tool and Die Casting.
Outside of work, Paul was known for his remarkable ability to restore and preserve pieces of the past. His hobbies included radio and electronic repair and he had a passion for collecting antiques, especially Victrolas, pinball machines and jukeboxes, and took great pride in restoring them to their original beauty. One of his favorite accomplishments was restoring a classic Wurlitzer jukebox. He also treasured his beautifully maintained 1955 powder blue Buick Roadmaster, taking it out for a drive just once each year.
Paul enjoyed bowling and was active in the Loyal Order of Moose and the Turtle Club, where he formed many lasting friendships. He and Beverly loved opening their home to entertain family and friends, and they were happiest when everyone gathered together for good food, conversation, and laughter.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Tim) Klein; two sons, Randy Paul Macher, Richard Lee Macher; five granchildren, Collin Joseph Klein, Jeremy Richard Klein, Lilian Amelia Klein, Megan Rae Macher, Ryan Paul Macher; and his sister, Evelyn Ries.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beverly, son, Robert Leigh Macher, sisters, Edna (Larry) March, Margaret (Lloyd) Frederick, brothers, Harry Macher, Howard (Lois) Macher, twin brother Carl Macher, Kenny Macher and brother-in-law, Jack Ries.
