Sardar Amrik Singh Sandhu

Amrik S. Sandhu, 102, of Portage, passed away on June 3, 2025 at Borgess Place in Kalamazoo, surrounded by his loved ones. Sardar Amrik Singh was born on January 6, 1923 in the village of Mura, Punjab, the son of Sardar Gulzar Singh and Sardarni Kartar Kaur Sandhu.

Sardar Amrik Singh was a man renowned for his quiet demeanor, diligence to structure/details, quick wit, and generosity of love to those around him.

He led a full professional life as an educator (physical education/math), dairy farmer, and Army man. He served in the Indian Armed Forces where he learned to practice self-discipline. He was known for his precise schedule and for his physical fitness. He exercised three times a day, which contributed to his long life. Sardar Amrik Singh was a teacher at Sant Singh Sukha Singh Khalsa until his retirement. Personally, he personified his role as a husband, father, surrogate father, uncle, grandfather, and friend to those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sardar Gulzar Singh and Sardarni Kartar Kaur Sandhu; his wife, Sardarni Lakhmir Kaur Sandhu; two brothers, Sardar Diljit Singh Sandhu and Sardar Harbhajan Singh Sandhu; and his sister, Sardarni Kulwant Kaur Baath.

He is survived by two daughters: Kiranjit Kaur (Gurcharan Singh) Randhawa and Davinder Kaur (Manjit Singh) Gill; two sons: Bhagwant Singh (Kiranjit Kaur) Sandhu and Parshotam Singh (Rosie Kaur) Sandhu; three sisters: Kashmir Kaur Sohi, Jasbir Kaur Dhillon, and Rajwant Kaur Sidhu; nine grandchildren: Jyoti Kaur (Kawalpreet Singh) Sandhu, Sundeep Singh (Parampreet Kaur) Randhawa, Amandeep Singh (Ruby K) Randhawa, Vikramjit Singh Gill, Maninderjit Singh Gill, Gagandeep Singh Sandhu, Harvin Singh Sandhu, Kiratpreet Kaur (Kultarpreet Singh) Goraya, and Harmun Singh Sandhu; five great-grandchildren: Zyra Kaur Randhawa, Lara Kaur Sandhu, Zaidendeep Singh Sandhu, Sher Singh Goraya, and Yuvraj Singh Goraya; and several nieces and nephews, including his special nephew Varinder Singh Dhillon.
